Corrida and bulls are certainly ones of the best-known sym bols of Spain all over the world. We take you to the heart of this Spanish popular tradition.
A corrida starts with the paseillo, when everybody enters the ring and presents themselves to the president and public. Two alguacilillos on horseback look up to the president's box and symbolically ask for the keys to the puerta de los toriles. There are three toreros-bullfighters in each corrida and the show starts when the door opens and the bull enters.
The matador wore a silk jacket ornated in gold, tight pants and a bicorne hat. He has to show his mastery to dominate the bull, and to establish an artistic symbiosis between man and beast. The corrida ends with the torero using his sword to kill the bull.
The first Corrida took place in Madrid on 15 of May 1947 during the Feria of San Isidro. Since then this is the most traditional show for Spanish people.
